Every student will learn to throw on the potters' wheel.
The following assignments will be done in order over the course of the grading period indicated.
1st Nine Weeks
Create three plates. One using each of the following techniques:
For each of the three plates choose one of the following techniques and design a surface decoration using a motif of your choice:
Create a set of three stacking bowls. (A small, medium, and large that fit inside each other)
Use a coil building technique and smooth the interior of each bowl completely.
The smallest bowl must not be less than 4 inches in diameter.
Surface Treatment:
Choose a theme for your set of bowls and create a design for each bowl that supports the theme.
Employ ONE of the following techniques for all three bowls to establish continuity and unity in your work:
Create a set of two mugs using a wheel thrown technique and pulled handles.
Surface Treatment:
Manipulate the surface of the mugs using one of the following techniques:
Fabrication:
Employ a flat-coil technique to build your pot. Manage your time to allow for drying and support.
Surface Treatment:
You may choose any of the surface treatment techniques that we have discussed, or any combination of techniques. Remember that the Rodeo contest celebrates Western/Southwestern American Culture, both past and present.
You may choose to glaze your piece using a black-on-black style, RAKU, glaze layering or any technique of your choosing. You may also employ glass mosaic, or grout inlay.
