This course is considered an upper level Fine Arts course . It is structured around the Art II Teks and is focussed on the use Clay and Ceramics as Art. Additionally we will explore themes that will challenge you to think critically about your own identity, the community you live in both global and local, popular culture, visual consumerism, and how history affects modern day experiences and specifically you as a person.
Course Objectives:
-Learn how to use the design process to create successful 3 dimensional original Ceramic work and Functional Ceramic work. -Further develop skills with a variety of handbuilding and ceramic processes using a variety of tools and techniques. -Understand 3 Dimensional art and design within historical and contemporary contexts. -Learn to work independently by choosing tools, supplies, and glazes to interpret ideas -Share your work and form intellectual criticism about your work and the work of others -Create and maintain a Digital Portfolio. -Prepare Students for success in other Art Courses and Prepare for AP 3D - Follow Level HS Art 2 Teks Ceramics.
Grading 50% Design/Plan/Process/Reflection 50% Final Product/ Artwork Please turn your work in on time: We follow the Secondary grading policy regarding late work. If an extension is needed please discuss this with me.
Procedures
Students will come to class prepared to work; most of our time will be spent producing works of art.
Students will receive an equal balance of classroom instruction and individual instruction based on his or her individual needs.
Support for fellow art students is essential to a positive classroom environment.
Demonstration of techniques will be an integral part of the classroom structure.
Discussions of art history, social impacts on the arts, trends in art, careers in art, will be incorporated naturally into the course.
Students may not engage in counterproductive conversations and/or behaviors in class.
Students will be responsible for the care of classroom supplies. For Safety ,Students should report tools and equipment that appear damaged or broken.
Fee There is a $30 fee per semester for this course. $60/Year
